Defying the Norm ... and Gravity, Too
Jodi Lomask's Capacitor dance troupe merges the science of movement and the
art of dance to create a new breed of performance. Visually stunning and mindfully
confounding, Capacitor juxtaposes the evolution of mankind against the evolution
of technology, stretching the human form across space and time. Some call
it modern dance, others a religious experience.
Playing With Fire
Regulars at Burning Man, Capacitor has a fetish for flames. The dancers hoist
multi-oreficed fire shooters on their heads, twirl battery-powered light sticks
and toss burning torches gingerly across the stage with expert ease.
Modern Dance or Post-Modern Rave?
While Capacitor does its full-length shows at the Alice Arts Center in Oakland,
the group also hosts performances that couple as late-night dance parties
at the King Street Garage; the company brings in a crowd that includes high
brow dance connoisseurs, Burning Man fanatics and party-smart club kids. (Karen
