Acrobatic, Athletic and Alive
Athletic, free-spirited, theatrical and acrobatic, the hip Capacitor dancers
use numerous forms of creative expression to generate a distinctive sense
of movement in their second Bay Area performance, "Future Species II." Their
pieces, performed at SomArts Gallery Theater, use light in fascinating ways:
from shadow to to illumination to fire. Particularly fascinating is their
athletic sensibility—the dancers are energetic and exciting without being
frenetic. Seemingly derivative of the vocabulary of Alwin Nikolais, the movement
is sometimes terse, sometimes fluid and shapely. Are you new to dance? This
show will fuel your desire to explore. Is dance already a familiar spectacle
to you? Capacitor will add to your repertoire of delight. (Marika Brussel)
