With its usual acrobatic flair, Capacitor presents future species 2 this weekend in San Francisco. The unorthodox dance group uses acrobatics, rappeling, glow balls, ropes, harnesses, and bungee cords. In future species 2, Capacitor founder Jodi Lomask has brought together a band of performers who use the air, floor, and walls as their stages. The group is named after an electronic device that accumulates electricity-- and when triggered, releases the built-up charge all at once.

The daughter of a New York City-based sciectist, Lomask grew up around such gadgets. She earned her dance degree from the prestigeous State University of New York at Purchase, and moved to the Bay Area in 1997. Describing her choreography, Lomask says, "I try to make it a less-passive experience for the audience, so they leave having been moved. I want to remind them of something they may have felt, a feeling they may have forgotten." (Leslie Katz)
